You change your mind, like Katy Perry breaks her clothes.
Katy Perry suffered a wardrobe malfunction on “American Idol” Monday night when her top burst open in the middle of the live show.
The incident occurred before Top 14 hopeful Roman Collins took the stage to sing James Brown’s “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World.”
According to Perry, 39, the chrome crop top she was wearing appeared to come loose at the back.
“My top broke #idol,” Perry captioned a behind-the-scenes Instagram video of herself being tended to by several crew members.
“I need my top to stay on,” the “Swish Swish” singer said in the video.
The clip then cut to Perry holding a wrench and telling the crew that “if it’s not fixed, this show is gonna get more than it wanted.”
At one point, fellow judge Luke Bryan attempted to help her, but gave up a few moments later.
“Never mind,” he said.
Perry then told Collins: “That song broke my top off. I guess it is a woman’s world.”
Poking fun at the “Hot n Cold” singer’s mishap, both Bryan, 43, and Lionel Richie joked that their ratings were going to soar.
“Ratings! Here we come ratings!” Bryan and Richie, 74, said as Perry kneeled behind the judge’s table.
“It’s a family show,” Perry joked.
The video ended with the “I Kissed A Girl” singer covering herself with a pillow.
Shortly after the show, Bryan spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the fiasco.
“Tonight, her top flies off, almost flies off. At this point in the game, I’m like, ‘What do you need? What do you need? You need a pair of pliers? You need a towel? A bathrobe? What do you need?’” he laughed.
Richie, however, told the outlet a different tale, which portrayed Bryan as the person responsible for the incident.
“Luke knocked the top off, I’ll tell you all the truth,” the “All Night Long” crooner said. “And then Luke spent the rest of the time going, ‘I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.’ But he was definitely apologetic and then he tried to put it back together and that looked worse than the whole thing.”
Perry later set the record straight, calling it a “moment for live television.”
“Yeah, he’s always setting me up,” Perry laughed, regarding Bryan. “It wasn’t really a malfunction. It was just a moment for live television.”
“Every season it seems I rip my pants…. I think it’s the physical comedy, the physical expression side of me that just wants to burst at the seams,” she added.
The singer told Access Hollywood that she loved the outfit. “I was rolling the dice but I was like, who cares?” she quipped.
Several of Perry’s fans found the entire kerfuffle highly entertaining.
“You’re hilarious,” one fan joked via X, formerly Twitter.
“Better your top than your bank account,” a second person said.
“You know it’s serious fashion when the power tools come out,” a third user cackled.
Monday’s episode brought the “Unconditionally” singer one step closer to her final episode. She announced her departure from the competition in February during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
Last week, Bryan said Perry exiting after Season 22 wasn’t a “huge shock.”
“I had heard whispers that she was thinking about it — it wasn’t like a huge shock,” the country star, 47,told Taste of Country. “I think she kinda just got caught up in the moment with Kimmel and maybe announced that she was done.”
