Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin didn’t hesitate to confront a reporter who called him a “ho” on a recent podcast following their rivalry win against Mississippi State on Friday.

Kiffin walked up to On3.com’s Ben Garrett — who has covered the Rebels since 2008, according to The Athletic — and said, “You wanna walk in here and call me a ho? Well, see how it goes.”

During a podcast, Garrett said, “You can’t turn a ho into a housewife. Hos don’t act right.”

When Kiffin addressed the confrontation during his postgame press conference Friday, Garrett jumped in to say that he wasn’t calling Kiffin a “ho” and instead was referring to his commitment, according to The Athletic, but Kiffin didn’t acknowledge the comment and instead said, “I actually don’t even know your name.”

“When you call someone a ho, that’s a different level,” Kiffin said. “… That’s about as bush league as stealing Trinidad’s jersey like Mississippi State did last night.”

Kiffin was making a reference to another strange twist in the Egg Bowl on Friday, as Kiffin alleged during a pregame interview with ESPN that Mississippi State fans broke into the Ole Miss locker room at 3 a.m. and stole the jersey of quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.

Then, near the end of the first half, punches were thrown between the pair of teams amid a scuffle that started after Mississippi State appeared to recover a fumble — though it was eventually overturned and ruled an incomplete pass.

So Kiffin’s exchange with Garrett only served as the latest strange moment Friday.

No. 7 Ole Miss defeated Mississippi State, 38-19, behind Chambliss’ 359 passing yards and four touchdowns to finish the regular season 11-1, but the status of Kiffin loomed over the victory.

He’ll need to make a decision by Saturday on if he’ll stay at Ole Miss or bolt for LSU’s coaching vacancy, and when asked by ESPN after the game, Kiffin, 50 and the Rebels’ head coach since the 2020 season, said he hadn’t made a decision yet.

“No, I haven’t,” he said. “I got a lot of praying to do to figure that out tomorrow.”
