Kristen Bell is now getting slammed by a national advocacy group in response to her wedding anniversary tribute to husband Dax Shepard for downplaying domestic violence.
“There’s nothing funny about domestic violence ‘jokes’ that trivialize the very real fear, trauma, and pain that millions of victims and survivors face each day,” a rep for the National Network to End Domestic Violence told Page Six in a statement on Tuesday.
“Especially during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we all have a responsibility to support victims and survivors, to invest in proven solutions, and to speak about this issue with the seriousness it deserves,” the organization concluded.
Late last week, the “Good Place” alum, 45, joked about the couple’s milestone via Instagram.
“Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would,’” she captioned a photo of the two hugging on a bed.
While some famous pals laughed off the comment — including Liv Tyler, Terry Crews, and Howie Mandel — other commenters weren’t as happy.
“Just an fyi, posting this caption during domestic violence awareness month is unbelievably tone deaf :/ please reconsider,” one of Bell’s followers wrote.
“Please don’t joke about domestic violence. Please keep in mind that this is something real that lots of people suffer on a daily basis,” a second person penned.
“How can any self respecting woman stay with a man who ‘jokes’ like that?” another person chimed in. “I’m not even a very serious person, but that would have me leaving so fast your head would spin.”
The official page for NBC’s “Dateline,” meanwhile, jokingly wrote “Screenshotted.” The franchise has aired true crime cold cases and human interest stories since its 1992 debut.
Bell, for her part, has yet to react to the backlash. However, she has since limited her social media comments. She’s currently on a promotional tour for Season 2 of her Netflix comedy, “Nobody Wants This.”
The series also stars Adam Brody, Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, Jackie Tohn, Emily Arlook and Sherry Cola.
Bell and the “Parenthood” actor, 50, have been married since October 2013. They share daughters Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10.
