It was a family affair when two people who got into a fight after Kansas State’s loss to Iowa State in Dublin on Saturday turned out to be the father and brother of Wildcats quarterback Avery Johnson.

The caught-on-camera incident showed Johnson’s father, Mark, involved in a tussle with his eldest son, Anthony, following the Aer Lingus College Football Classic at Aviva Stadium as onlookers tried to intervene and break up the fight.

On3.com confirmed that the altercation occurred between the two Johnson family members and that no arrests were made related to the incident.

The two acknowledged the incident in a joint statement released Sunday.

“We sincerely apologize for our actions following yesterday’s football game in Ireland. Senseless bickering escalated into an unnecessary fight,” Mark and Anthony wrote in the statement, according to On3.com. “We have resolved our differences and take full responsibility for our actions. We have apologized to our immediate and extended family, and now extend our apologies to Kansas State University, its alumni, and fans.

“We regret this incident, have learned from it, and are committed to ensuring it doesn’t happen again. Please accept our deepest apologies.”

It remains unclear what led to the fight in the first place outside the stadium.

In the viral video of the altercation, a female voice can be heard saying, “Anthony, this is embarrassing as f–k.”

Another voice can be heard saying, “Dad, stop.”

Johnson had completed 21-of-30 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns Saturday against Iowa State.

He also rushed for 21 yards and another touchdown.

Iowa State won the game, 24-21, as the 2025 college football season kicked off with Week 0.

Johnson is in his third season with the Wildcats and is coming off a campaign where he threw for over 2,500 yards.
