If the Packers were to move on from Matt LaFleur following Saturday’s playoff loss to the Bears, it would add the biggest twist yet to an already shocking NFL coaching cycle.

During “Sunday NFL Countdown,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter linked John Harbaugh to a potential Packers opening in what would be a blow to teams like the Giants hoping to secure the Super Bowl winner’s services.

LaFleur’s contract is up after the 2026 season, and Schefter noted that Packers president Ed Policy has a big decision to make regarding a potential extension.

“The Packers’ former president back in the day was a man by the name of Bob Harlan. Bob Harlan’s son, Bryan Harlan, represents John Harbaugh. John Harbaugh is a midwestern guy who has a home in the upper peninsula (in Michigan),” Schefter said. “And a lot of people around the league have been wondering if the Packers decide to go in a different direction, if all of a sudden the Green Bay Packers might vault to the top of John Harbaugh’s list as the top available choice for him.”

While the Packers would certainly loom as a possible favorite for Harbaugh if they fire LaFleur after seven seasons, the flip side for the Giants and other teams with coaching vacancies is LaFleur would become a top target for them.

noti.group’s Paul Schwartz reported that Harbaugh is amenable to sitting down with Giants general manager Joe Schoen.

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer on Saturday spoke to Harbaugh, who said this weekend he was going to narrow his list down to three or four teams and make a decision on where he wants to go this week.

The Giants have been casting a wide net, as Schoen said they would, and ostensibly would add LaFleur to their list if he were to become available.

LaFleur, 46, has a 76-40-1 regular-season record with Green Bay and has made the playoffs six times, though they’ve been bounced in the wild-card round two years in a row and haven’t gotten back to the NFC Championship game since two consecutive appearances in his first two years at the helm.
