PHOENIX — Is there a Giants reunion brewing with Odell Beckham Jr.?
If there is, it would also be a reunion with their new head coach, as well.
John Harbaugh on Monday heaped praise on Beckham and certainly did not discount the Giants possibly adding the 33-year old wide receiver to the roster, at some point.
“The obvious pat answer would be you look at every option, right?’’ Harbaugh said at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting at the Arizona Biltmore.
“If Odell’s an option we’ll be looking at him, for sure.’’
That is a big “if’’ in terms of Beckham being an option for the Giants. He was a star player for them for five years but time has taken a toll on his body.
Beckham’s career has included all sorts of paths and detours and he did spend the 2023 season with Harbaugh and the Ravens, catching 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns.
So, Harbaugh certainly has a connection with the player widely referred to as OBJ.
“He and I do talk and we do text, we’ve maintained a really great relationship,’’ Harbaugh said.
“He’s one of my very favorite people in the world. So, it’s not like you don’t talk to guys about things like that. And certainly we have.’’
Does this make sense? The Giants have a No. 1 receiver, Malik Nabers, returning from ACL surgery — he is expected to be ready to hit the field sometime this summer. They still have Darius Slayton on the roster and in free agency added Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III on one-year contracts. They re-signed Isaiah Hodgins. They lost Wan’Dale Robinson, who went to the Titans.
Beckham was the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He won the NFC’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award, made an array of sensational one-handed grabs and in five seasons with the Giants accumulated 390 receptions for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns before he was traded away to the Browns.
He won a Super Bowl with the Rams after the 2021 season but tore his ACL in the game. With the Ravens (2023) and Dolphins (2024) he showed only glimpses of his past greatness.
Beckham did not play at all in 2025 and was suspended six games for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
Again, does it make sense to have him end his NFL career where he started it?
“We just have to see where it all goes, what’s best for him, what’s best for the Giants,” Harbaugh said. “That’s the No. 1 thing, it’s what is best for your team. Any player, if he helps you be a better team then you’re going to pursue that. We just have to see where that goes.’’
