Joe Burrow apparently hasn’t watched “Wedding Crashers.”
While crabcakes and football may be what Maryland does, the Bengals’ star quarterback had no clue how to attack a celebratory Thanksgiving Maryland crab after leading Cincinnati to an upset 32-14 win over the Ravens on Thursday night.
As Burrow and his teammates stood around a post-victory spread on the field at M&T Bank Stadium, Burrow quizzically examined a crab and even smelled it for a moment.
“What is this?” Burrow asked NBC’s Melissa Stark while holding it outward.
Stark responded: “That’s a Maryland crab. Joe is asking me what the crab is. I’m from Maryland…”
Burrow, who played high school football in Ohio, then asked about whether he could bite into the delicacy.
“No, it’s hard shell, you do note bite it,” Stark said in perhaps one of the best sound clips of the year. “You have to pull the legs off. But here’s some Cincinnati chili.”
Burrow, meanwhile shook his head like a little kid at Thanksgiving dinner who wanted nothing to do with the odd food in front of him.
The scene provided a comical ending to the three-game Thanksgiving football feast, which ended with the Bengals handing the Ravens a tough blow in Baltimore’s quest to make the playoffs in Burrow’s return after missing nine games after undergoing surgery due to turf toe.
Burrow completed 24-of-46 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns, playing better in the second half after he knocked off some “rust” in the first 30 minutes.
Cincinnati tallied four field goals in the first half to take a 12-7 lead into halftime before Burrow tossed both touchdown passes in the second half to blow the game open.
The quarterback said he felt he placed the ball better in the final 30 minutes.

“Certainly it hasn’t been easy one on me through six years, from a lot of different angles. I’ve worked really hard to put myself to be back out there. And a lot of people around me have done the same, ” Burrow said after Cincinnati improved to 4-8. “There’s been a lot of discussions, and a lot of time in the training room, and just a lot that has gone into that and I’m proud to be back.”
Burrow acknowledged that he fared better than he expected in terms of his ability to move in the pocket, although he only ran three times for eight yards.
“I was a little more mobile than I expected to be, to be honest, so that felt good,” Burrow said.
“We got a good system on the sideline of changing shoes out and doing what I need to do to stay fresh, so we’ll continue to do that.”
