Tanner Engstrand has high expectations for the Jets offense.

His goal is eight explosive plays every game.

By that metric, Week 1 was successful — the Jets had 11 of them.

The team counts explosive plays as passes of 16 or more yards and runs of 12 or more.

“We are always shooting for eight,” Engstrand said Thursday. “The more explosives you get, the higher [the] percentage of scoring drives, and so we’re always hunting those explosives. Again, something we have talked about since Day 1 here. The more explosives that you can find in a game, the higher chance you have to score, and the more points you are going to put on the board.”

Though the Jets dropped the opener, the offense more than held up its end, accounting for 32 points and 394 yards of offense.

The Jets managed 32 points just twice all of last season.

It was a strong start for the 43-year-old Engstrand, who previously called plays in 2019 in the XFL and in college at the University of San Diego.

He was the passing game coordinator with the Lions the past two seasons.

“It was really nice to be back doing that again and under the pressure of a game that counts, but it felt good,” he said. “It was exciting, it was fun for me to be out there. There were a couple of calls that I would have liked back and a couple of [times] that I could get the play call into Justin [Fields] a little bit quicker.”

The Jets’ already thin wide receiver room could be shorthanded Sunday.

Veteran Josh Reynolds was held out of practice Thursday with a hamstring injury.

That could lead to Allen Lazard making his 2025 debut.

He was a healthy scratch in the opener.

On Monday, coach Aaron Glenn said Lazard was behind after missing time in the preseason with a shoulder injury.

Star cornerback Sauce Gardner popped up on the injury list Thursday with a groin injury.

He was limited, as was fellow defensive back Michael Carter II (shoulder).

Running back/kick returner Kene Nwangwu (hamstring) and defensive lineman Jay Tufele (illness) remained out.

Tight end Mason Taylor (ankle) was limited.

The rookie told The Post he expects to play Sunday.

Bills standout defensive tackle Ed Oliver was held out of practice Thursday and was in a walking boot.

He is dealing with an ankle injury.

The 27-year-old Oliver tallied six tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, two quarterback hits and three tackles for loss in a win over the Ravens in Week 1.
