This was the antithesis of the team Aaron Glenn preached and promised he was going to deliver to Jets fans.

Disciplined.

Smart.

Tough.

The Jets exhibited none of those traits in a sloppy 30-10 loss to the Bills Sunday at MetLife Stadium, a loss that drops them to 0-2 in Glenn’s rookie season.

A week after showing much promise in a number of areas in a season-opening two-point loss to the Steelers, the Jets regressed on Sunday, handing the Bills an easy division victory with an alarming array of poor discipline, smarts and toughness.

Days after the loss to the Steelers, which was heavily facilitated by a fumbled kickoff by Xavier Gipson, Glenn cut Gipson. The move was lauded by Jets fans as a message by the Jets new head coach that he wasn’t going to tolerate players who make plays that cause the team to lose games.

The problem with Sunday’s loss to the Bills is this: If Glenn cut all the players who caused the Jets to lose this game, he wouldn’t have enough players on the roster to field a team for next Sunday’s game in Tampa.

Making matters worse (a familiar phrase in Jets history), they lost starting quarterback Justin Fields to a head injury in the fourth quarter after he was sacked by Joey Bosa.

Seven days removed from Fields’ marvelous debut for the Jets, completing 16 of 22 for 218 yards and one TD passing, along with 48 rushing yards on 12 plays, he was just 3 of 11 for 27 yards with a lost fumble and two sacks for 19 lost yards.

Fields, who was being evaluated for a concussion, was replaced by backup Tyrod Taylor with 12:03 remaining in the game.
