A female cop who joined the police force to catch her father’s killer told him ‘you will pay’ as she arrested him 25 years later.

Gislayne Silva de Deus, 36, helped detain Raimundo Alves Gomes, 60, who shot her father at point blank range over a £20 debt in Boa Vista, Brazil, in February 1999.

The horror murder prompted Gislayne, who was nine at the time, to vow she would would one day avenge her father.

And when he was finally arrested on September 25, she told him: ‘It’s because of me that you are here, and you will pay, even if it’s minimal, you will pay.’

Alves Gomes had been on the run since 2016 despite being convicted of the murder of Givaldo Jose Vicente de Deus, 35, in 2013.

Ghislayne (pictured second from left) said arresting her father's killer had 'cleansed her soul'

Gisylane said: ‘With his arrest, I cleansed my soul and that of my entire family. It was the end of a cycle. Today we have peace and the feeling that justice was served.’

‘This won’t bring our father back, but [the killer] will serve the sentence he should have served many years ago,’ she added.

Gislayne’s father had been playing pool in Boa Vista’s Asa Branca neighbourhood when Alves Gomes showed up to collect the £20 debt.

She said he tried to resolve the situation by offering the killer a freezer, but he declined and left before returning about 30 minutes later armed with a gun.

The pair got into a physical fight and her father was fatally shot. He was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries.

Gislayne has three sisters and a brother, the youngest of whom was only two years old when their father was killed.

She started studying to become a lawyer but took the police entry exam and became a cop.

‘When I was a prison [police officer], I always imagined [the killer] arriving there to serve his sentence,’ Gislayne told local media.

She later joined the police force as a clerk, where she was assigned to the General Homicide Division (DGH) and tirelessly gathered information about her father’s killer, eventually tracking him down before he was arrested.

Footage showed Gislayne finally coming face-to-face with her father’s murderer at the police station after she helped to arrest him.

Alves Gomes was found guilty of the murder in 2013 but only went on the run in 2016 after an arrest warrant was issued against him, some 14 years after he committed the crime.

The killer fled the scene before being arrested by the police on the same day. He was, however, inextricably released from police custody before his trial.

Even more inexplicable, the Roraima Court only issued a warrant for the killer’s arrest three years after the conviction.

Local media said that the statute of limitations for arresting homicide defendants is 20 years in Brazil, meaning that the police officer still had approximately six years to track down her father’s killer.

Alves Gomes was presented before a judge on September 26 and his conviction was upheld. He was then sent to prison.
