It will be quite interesting to see how Indiana approaches Friday night’s game with Purdue.
On one hand, it would be a historic win for the Hoosiers, completing an undefeated season and sending them to the Big Ten Championship.
But on the other hand, they’re already in the College Football Playoff, and they could still go to the conference title game with a loss, so long as Ohio State beats Michigan.
There’s also the fact that Indiana is lightyears better than Purdue, and could probably beat the Boilermakers with its “B” team.
Indiana vs. Purdue odds, prediction
The betting market isn’t too worried about Indiana’s approach for Friday’s rivalry game.
The Hoosiers are 28.5-point favorites, despite being on the road.
That’s quite a large number to be laying on the road against a rival, but the Hoosiers are built to cover these wide spreads.
Quarterback Fernando Mendoza has turned this offense into a juggernaut and will be motivated to put up some big numbers to impress the Heisman committee in his final game.
The Hoosiers will do whatever they can to help Mendoza win the Heisman, but the team’s ambitions will take precedence if they build a big lead.
The ideal scenario for Indiana is that it gets out of the gates hot, puts some daylight between itself and the Boilermakers and gets its starters off the field.
The Hoosiers should be able to accomplish that goal.
Betting on College Football?
Indiana’s offense grades out as elite, but the defense also boasts one of the best statistical profiles in the country. The Hoosiers rank second in points per game allowed, fourth in yards allowed per game and 16th in yards per play.
As long as the starters are on the field, Indiana should dominate. So we’ll focus on the first-half spread and back the Hoosiers to get off to a blistering start Friday.
