A spot in the championship game of the 2026 World Baseball Classic is on the line tonight when Team USA and the Dominican Republic face off in the semifinals.
The United States outlasted Canada in the quarterfinals, in a 5-3 game that remained close until the very end, to reach today’s semifinal. The 2023 runners-up have an opportunity to reach the final once again.
They’ll face the still-undefeated Dominican Republic tonight. The D.R. played just six innings of the quarterfinal against South Korea thanks to a walk-off three-run homer by Yankees catcher Austin Wells pulling the team past the 10-0 threshold to enact the WBC’s mercy rule.
“I expect it to be, like, one of the greatest games of all time,” USA manager Mark DeRosa told reporters of tonight’s matchup after the team’s win against Canada.
