Odds are, if you know who Brett Goldstein is, it’s likely from his award-winning role on “Ted Lasso,” but long before that, the actor and screenwriter was a stand-up coming. He still is, in fact.

HBO is debuting Goldstein’s first stand-up special for the network tonight; “Brett Goldstein: Second Best Night of Your Life” was filmed live in New Jersey after he toured the special nationwide throughout 2024 and 2025.

Viewers who primarily know him from his work playing foul-mouthed footballer Roy Kent on “Ted Lasso” will likely be surprised at how often the one-time “Sesame Street” guest star and Muppets fanatic references Jim Henson’s famous characters throughout the special, but rest assured, the “Shrinking” co-creator manages to fit in plenty of f-bombs throughout.

Per HBO, the special features include “hilarious insights on love, sex, masculinity, “Sesame Street,” and everything in between.”

What time does Brett Goldstein’s stand-up special come out on HBO and Max?

Brett Goldstein’s first HBO stand-up special will air tonight, April 26, at 10 p.m. ET. The special, titled “Brett Goldstein: Second Best Night of Your Life,” will also drop on Max at 10 p.m. tonight.

How to watch ‘Brett Goldstein: Second Best Night of Your Life’:

If you don’t have HBO through traditional cable, you’ll need a Max subscription to watch the new stand-up special.

Max, which you can subscribe to directly or via Prime Video, starts at $9.99/month with ads.

That’s not the only way to subscribe, though. Sling TV is among the best value for money among live tv streaming services, thanks to some great offers and add-ons. You’ll need Sling’s Blue plan with a Max add-on to watch HBO live. And when you subscribe to Max through Sling, the money-saving never stops! You’ll get 50% off your first month, plus $5 off your bill every month after that.

How to watch Brett Goldstein in ‘Shrinking’ and ‘Ted Lasso’ for free:

“Ted Lasso” and “Shrinking” are both part of the Apple TV+ library, and whether you’ve never seen them before or it’s just been a while and you’re itching for a rewatch, you can take advantage of a one-week free trial by subscribing either directly through Apple TV+ or via Prime Video Channels.

As previously reported, “Shrinking” has been renewed for a third season (which will likely feature Goldstein in the recurring role of Louis, he debuted last season), and over two years after airing what seemed to be a series finale, “Ted Lasso” will return for Season 4.
