The first matchday of the 2025-26 Champions League is coming to an end with four final matches, including one between England’s Newcastle United and Spain’s FC Barcelona.
Newcastle is back in the Champions League for just the fifth time; most recently, the team bowed out after the group stage of the 2023-24 tournament. The team punched its ticket by finishing in the top two of the 2024/25 association club coefficients, therefore securing one of two European Performance Spots. In the current Premier League season, Newcastle is coming off their first win.
Barcelona nearly went all the way last year; the five-time Champions League winners made it to the semifinals before falling to eventual runners-up Inter Milan. Last year’s La Liga champions currently sit in second in the Liga table after four games.
