The last time is now.

After over 2,000 matches and two decades as one of the WWE’s most recognizable faces, John Cena will wrestle in his retirement match tonight during “Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII.”

Ahead of tonight’s match, WWE held a “The Last Time is Now Tournament” over the past month to determine who Cena would face in his final match. After taking down NXT’s Je’Von Evans, Carmelo Hayes, and Solo Sikoa, it’ll be “The Ring General” Gunther vs. Cena.

‘saturday night’s main event xlii’: what to know

  • When: Dec. 13, 8 p.m. ET
  • Where: Capital One Arena (Washington D.C.)
  • Streaming: Peacock

Cena announced his retirement from WWE at the 2024 Money in the Bank event. Over the course of his WWE career, which began in 2001, Cena held the WWE Championship belt a record 14 times, was WWE United States Champion four times and WWE Intercontinental Championship once.

He achieved the Triple Crown (a world championship, another singles championship, and a tag team championship) and the Grand Slam (four distinct titles, achieved just months ago) throughout his long career, too.

When is John Cena’s last match?

John Cena’s last WWE match is tonight, Dec. 13, at “Saturday Night’s Main Event.” “SNME” begins at 8 p.m. ET on Peacock.

Who is John Cena fighting in his last match?

Austrian wrestler Gunther, also known as “The Ring General” will be Cena’s last WWE opponent.

Ahead of the match, Gunther told The Post, “I’m expecting nothing less than the best John Cena that there is right now.”
