After a golden moment in the figure skating team event on Sunday, Ilia Malnin will be back on the ice today.

Despite a slip early in his free skate, Malinin landed five quads and a backflip to record a score of 200, enough to seal Team USA’s repeat gold medal in the team event. Now, Malinin will begin his quest for a first individual Olympic medal, and being unbeaten in his past 14 full competitions, he is still the favorite for gold.

“That’s only 50 percent of my full potential there,” Malinin said following his first team event performance on Saturday.

In addition to Malinin, Andrew Torgashev and Maxim Naumov, Team USA’s second and third-ranked men’s singles skaters will make their Olympic debuts.
