It’s lights out and away we go: the “F1” movie is finally heading to Apple TV!

“F1,” which hit theaters in June, joins Apple TV‘s streaming lineup beginning tomorrow, Dec. 12.

Apple TV is all in on F1, and it shows; the premiere comes just months before Formula One moves its streaming operation in the United States from ESPN to Apple TV. Beginning with the 2026 season, every race, qualifying, and practice session will stream on the Apple TV app for subscribers.

Brad Pitt stars in “F1” as Sonny Hayes, a racing prodigy returning to F1 after suffering severe injuries in a crash 30 years earlier. His former F1 teammate (Javier Bardem) now owns an underdog F1 team and taps Sonny to help save the team by the end of the current season by securing just one win. Sonny’s teammate, the young hotshot rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), becomes his biggest rival on the grid as they work together and clash while trying to bring victory to APXGP.

The movie, directed by “Top Gun: Maverick” mastermind Joseph Kosinski, was made with the cooperation of F1’s governing body. The FIA, so racing sequences and other race week events were filmed at various Grand Prix across the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Seven-time World Drivers Champion Lewis Hamilton also served as an executive producer on the film and gave input during the production process.

‘F1’ movie Apple TV release date

The “F1” movie officially drops on Apple TV on Friday, Dec. 12.

Apple TV has been known to “unofficially” drop new titles as early as 9 p.m. ET the day before a scheduled release date, though, so it’s likely you’ll be able to watch “F1” as soon as tonight, Dec. 11, at 9 p.m.

How to watch ‘F1’ for free

“F1” is streaming exclusively on Apple TV for subscribers.

Apple TV offers a seven-day free trial for users, so you’ll be able to watch the movie a few times before the $12.99/month payments kick in.

Amazon Prime members can also subscribe to Apple TV directly through Prime Video. It costs the same $12.99/month price and also includes a seven-day free trial.

‘F1’ movie cast

  • Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a nomadic racer-for-hire and former 1990s Formula One driver for Lotus who returns to F1 with APXGP
  • Damson Idris as Joshua Pearce, a hotshot rookie who drives for APXGP, becoming Sonny’s teammate and main rival
  • Kerry Condon as Kate McKenna, the APXGP technical director
  • Javier Bardem as Ruben Cervantes, the APXGP team owner, Sonny’s friend, and former Lotus teammate
  • Tobias Menzies as Peter Banning, an APXGP board member
  • Kim Bodnia as Kaspar Smolinski, the APXGP team principal
  • Sarah Niles as Bernadette Pearce, Joshua’s mother

  • Joseph Balderrama as Rico Fazio, Joshua’s APXGP race engineer
  • Abdul Salis as Dodge Dowda, the APXGP chief mechanic

In addition to the main cast, a number of actual F1 drivers and personnel (team principals and CEOs) from the 2023 and 2024 seasons appear in the movie, as it was filmed during real race weekends. These cameos include three-time world champion Max Verstappen, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, the aforementioned Hamilton, and newly minted world champion Lando Norris.
