A championship football game between Mississippi private high schools turned into a backyard brawl after a quarterback was shoved to the ground by an opposing coach.

The deeply unfortunate incident occurred during the second quarter of the Class 4A-D3 Midsouth Association of Independent Schools title matchup between Lamar School and Brookhaven Academy, held at Mississippi College’s Robinson-Hale Stadium on Saturday night.

Lamar’s quarterback, Sullivan Reed, scrambled up the left side and darted into the Brookhaven sideline after securing a first down.

Reed ran between a pair of Brookhaven assistant coaches as he ventured out of bounds — one of whom extended his right arm and shoved the QB’s shoulder, sending the QB barreling toward the steel bench.

The young QB popped right back up to his feet, immediately hurling the football as hard as he could at the opposing coach.

Only, it hit a Brookhaven player in the back, sparking an intense sideline fracas which seemingly saw one Brookhaven coach throw a punch.

Reed was ejected from the matchup, according to BroBible. The coach, who had just forcibly shoved a child to the ground? He got charged with unsportsmanlike conduct and was shockingly allowed to stay on the sideline for the rest of the game.

Lamar got the last laugh in the end, persevering without its starting quarterback to defeat Brookhaven, 34–17, to secure its seventh state title in program history — and its first since 2018.

While neither the MAIS or Brookhaven has issued a statement regarding the altercation, the coaching staff likely awaits much harsher consequences than a 15-yard penalty.
