Abdul Carter is already a professional trash-talker.
The Giants certainly hope he’ll be as good on the field after drafting him No. 3 overall this year, and while all the signs had been promising entering Saturday’s preseason game against the Jets, the Snoopy Bowl showed the 21-year-old still has a learning curve.
Carter was flattened by a chip block from Jets tight end Stone Smartt in the second quarter, and as he got back up to his knees, right tackle Chukwuma Okorafor put Carter right back on his behind.
The Giants rookie fired off a spicy tweet in response to the official NFL account’s tweet featuring a video of the moment.
“Might be the only highlight of the Jets all season⬇️ and we put BTA. weak ass chip ate that mf like bbq,” Carter wrote.
The versatile pass-rusher made a great first impression in his NFL preseason debut on Aug. 9 against the Bills and he impressed the Jets during the joint practices with the Giants on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Carter had three pass rushes against the Bills in Orchard Park and created a quarterback pressure on all three, according to NextGen Stats.
While division rivalries rule in the NFL and the Giants and Jets don’t play each other in meaningful games very often, perhaps Carter’s comments will add some tension between the two teams.
They last played a regular-season game in 2023, when the Jets won 13-10 in overtime for their third straight win over Big Blue. The Giants had won the previous five meetings.
