Opening Day is now officially a question mark for Francisco Lindor.
The Mets’ shortstop has elected to undergo surgery Wednesday on the potential stress reaction in the hamate bone in his left hand, manager Carlos Mendoza said in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Lindor will face an approximate six-week recovery period that makes it uncertain whether he will be available to face the Pirates on March 25.
Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Tuesday he’s “optimistic” Lindor could be ready to start the season even if he underwent surgery.
Lindor, 32, is entering his sixth season with the team.
