You can count David Tyree among those who believe “the risks are too great” for the Giants to continue playing rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart this year.

The Super Bowl XLII helmet-catch hero believes the 2-12 Giants should start veteran backup Jameis Winston at quarterback for the remainder of the regular season.

Dart, the 25th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has shown positive signs that he can be the team’s answer at quarterback — as well as a willingness to absorb contact.

But Dart also has missed time with a concussion, and he briefly was removed from Sunday’s loss to the Commanders to be checked for a head injury. Tyree was asked Tuesday about the notion the Giants need to protect the rookie from himself over their final three games.

“I’ve personally been heavy on sitting Jaxson Dart ever since I saw Jameis Winston [play],” Tyree told host Brandon London on noti.group’s “Blue Rush” podcast. “I think the thought process the Giants had at the beginning of the season was the right game plan. Get a young, talented quarterback in and allow him to actually sit and learn. You have Jameis Winston in there, he actually gave you a good flash, and some revival, some excitement. He’s not just a media frenzy. He’s actually a solid NFL quarterback who can really produce for you.

“And I think they need to sit Jaxson Dart in light of what we’ve seen. The positives, we’ve seen enough positives. We know that we actually have something special brewing. The risks are too great at this point, in light of what the Giants are paying for it. You’re paying these backup quarterbacks, put them out there and give them a chance to continue their careers in the National Football League. I think to those types of front office decisions where is this just about us trying to get a win? So [interim coach Mike] Kafka is in there, you got [GM Joe] Schoen in there, you got hard decisions to make. So sit Jaxson Dart’s behind down, so he can be the future of the franchise.”

With the 22-year-old Dart sidelined with the concussion, Winston filled in as the starter in the Giants’ losses last month against the Packers and the Lions.

The 11-year NFL veteran threw for 567 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for a score against Green Bay and caught a TD pass from wide receiver Gunner Olszewski against Detroit.

Russell Wilson started the first three games of 2025 — all losses — before Dart took over in a Week 4 win over the Chargers.

The Giants finish the season against the Vikings, Raiders and Cowboys — three teams that do not have much to play for down the stretch.
