Eric Mabius, the actor best known for his work on the TV show “Ugly Betty,” was arrested for battery and resisting a law enforcement officer without violence on Thursday morning, the Post can confirm.
The star, 53, was taken into custody by officers from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department in Florida on Thursday at 2:13 a.m. ET. Mabius, who is a Florida resident, was booked into the Nassau County Jail and Detention Center at 5:45 a.m.
Both Mabius’ battery and resisting an officer without violence charges are misdemeanors.
According to Mabius’ arrest report obtain by The Post, police arrived at a Florida bar and observed Mabius trying to help a woman stand. Mabius and the woman, who was also arrested, were allegedly “extremely intoxicated,” and “kept trying to yell at everyone in the bar.”
The arresting officer then “escorted them outside to try to separate everyone.”
The woman with Mabius “just laid on the ground and refused to listen and or speak” and the arresting officer along with another officer “had to physically pick the arrestee up and carry her outside,” per the report, which added that, “Once outside [the woman] continued to resist and was ultimately placed under arrest for resisting.”
Mabius became involved when the woman started to push the alleged victim. He allegedly “knocked both [the woman] and [the victim] to the ground,” which, according to the victim, “only took a few seconds.”
“[W]hile [the victim] was on the ground Eric got on top of her and was pulling her hair ripping a handful of her hair from her scalp,” the arrest report continued. “The victim then stated that this is when multiple people at the bar was able to pull both arrestees’ off of her.”
An eyewitness told sheriffs that “Eric, slung both girls to the ground and so he grabbed Eric off of the girls and the cops where [sic] arriving on scene.”
“The witness advised he did not wish to press charges for getting spit on,” per the official record.
However, matters escalated further: “While outside Eric, became more belligerent and not following simple commands to just sit on the bench.”
At one point in time, “Eric tried to stand up and walk behind” the arrest officer while he “was trying to finish investigating the incident. Several Deputies had to escort him back to the bench and placed him under arrest for resisting without violence.”
“After speaking back with the victim, she stated she did wish to press charges on both of the arrestees,” the account added.
The sheriff then placed both the woman with Mabius and Mabius “under arrest for simple battery and resisting without violence based on the officer’s investigation, the evidence, and the witness statements.
A spokesperson for the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department told the Post Thursday afternoon that Mabius is still in custody and hasn’t yet had his first court appearance, which will most likely be tomorrow morning.
In a booking photo obtained by the Post, the actor appears to have a bruise and a cut on the corner of his right eye, and wears a disheveled orange T-shirt underneath and orange and cream striped jumpsuit, presumably provided by corrections officers. Mabius also raises his eyebrows and looks bleary-eyed in the snap taken against a grey backdrop.
A rep for Mabius did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for comment.
In addition to his work on “Ugly Betty,” Mabius has appeared on other popular TV shows, including “The OC,” “Blue Bloods,” “The L Word,” “Outcasts” and “Chicago Fire.” He also had memorable roles in movies such as “Cruel Intentions,” “Resident Evil” and “The Crow: Salvation.”
Most recently, he starred in the Hallmark series “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”
This is a developing story.
