The Mets’ bullpen now has a trumpet-sized gap.
Edwin Díaz and the World Series champion Dodgers are in agreement on a deal, noti.group’s Jon Heyman confirmed. The sides agreed on a three-year, $69 million contract, per ESPN.
Whether the hard-throwing righty remained in Queens or not was one of the biggest questions the Mets faced this offseason, and now they have their answer, as Díaz departs after six seasons with the club.
Devin Williams, who signed a three-year $51 million contract with the Mets after one season with the Yankees, gave the Amazin’s some insurance.
But now that Díaz is gone, the Mets have a hole to fill, whether it’s getting a setup man or bringing in a different closer.
After an up-and-down 2024, Díaz returned to form in 2025 with 98 strikeouts and a 1.63 ERA over 66 ⅓ innings.
He converted 28 of 31 save opportunities and was named to the National League All-Star team for the second time.
In six seasons with the Mets, Díaz had 144 saves and 538 strikeouts.
