The Dolphins have officially joined the John Harbaugh sweepstakes.

After they announced Jon-Eric Sullivan as their new general manager Friday, they formerly reached out to Harbaugh to express interest, according to ESPN.

Harbaugh, after being fired by the Ravens following 18 seasons with the team, is the top dog among head coaching candidates this cycle.

The Giants are one team that has strong interest in hiring Harbaugh as their next head coach, noti.group’s Paul Schwartz has reported, though they will face heavy competition for his services.

The Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel on Thursday after going 7-10 and failing to make the playoffs for the second straight season.

McDaniel was in charge for four seasons.

“After careful evaluation and extensive discussions since the season ended, I have made the decision that our organization is in need of comprehensive change,” Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in a statement. “I informed Mike McDaniel this morning that he has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

“I love Mike and want to thank him for his hard work, commitment, and the energy he brought to our organization. Mike is an incredibly creative football mind whose passion for the game and his players was evident every day. I wish him and his family the best moving forward.”

They fired former general manager Will Grier, who had served in that role since 2016, after a 2-7 start to the season.

Sullivan previously served as the Packers’ vice president of player personnel.

“I could not be more excited to welcome Jon-Eric Sullivan as our next general manager,” Ross said in a statement. “Jon-Eric brings a clear vision for how to build and run a football team, founded upon his own experience at a winning organization.”
