Daniel Jones has the Colts’ offense humming while riding a 6-1 start in his first year with the team.

Of course, that isn’t a surprise to the former Giants quarterback.

When asked Sunday by CBS Sports’ Evan Washburn about what those around the league should know about the surging Colts that they may not have been privy to entering the season, Jones offered a pointed message to skeptics after guiding the team to a 38-24 road win over the Chargers.

“Sounds like y’all didn’t know much,” a grinning Jones said. “We’re just gonna keep going, keep working, and we have a lot of confidence, we have a lot of good players, guys who work hard and do the right things.”

Jones, who appears to have exorcised the ghosts of his rocky Giants past, went 23 of 34 for 288 yards and two touchdowns Sunday, bringing his season total to 10 through seven games against three interceptions.

“We’re trying to execute at a high level. I think we’re prepared going in. The coaches have done a great job of game-planning and getting us ready, and we’ve executed,” Jones said.

It’s Jones who has executed at a high level, authoring a career resurgence that seemed almost unfathomable a year ago.

In what was his sixth and final year with the Giants, the former Duke product completed 63.3 percent of his passes in a 2-8 start before being benched for Tommy DeVito.

Jones was granted his release last November and joined the Vikings for the latter part of 2024.

He then signed a one-year, $14 million deal with the Colts and defeated 2023 first-round pick Anthony Richardson in an offseason quarterback battle to claim the starting job.

Coach Shane Steichen, who heaped praise of Jones’ preparation earlier in the year, lauded his group that now holds a commanding lead atop the AFC South standings.

“Our guys do a great job of preparing and executing for different looks that we can get down there,” he said. “Ton of respect for the Chargers defense and what they do, they’ve been really good. So a lot of respect for those guys and their coaches. I think our guys are just executing at a high level.”

The Colts host the 1-6 Titans on Sunday.
