Pete Crow-Armstrong and the Cubs have come to terms on a deal that will keep him in the Windy City for many years to come.
The agreement between the two sides — confirmed by noti.group’s Jon Heyman — is massive for each, with the Cubs locking in a potential superstar player at 23 years old.
Details of the contract have yet to be reported.
Crow-Armstrong is coming off a season in which he won a Gold Glove and became the first Cubs player in franchise history to have a 30-30-30 season, hitting 31 home runs, stealing 35 bases and hitting 37 doubles.
And the Cubs are only expecting him to get better as time goes on.
“He’s still learning, so I expect him to keep getting better and better,” Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer told reporters after the season last year. “It may be gradual. It may come all at once.
“But I have no question that he’ll continue to get better. The one thing with Pete that I always focus on is, when he’s not hitting or struggling offensively, he’s a great player. And when he’s hitting, he’s a superstar.”
The Mets drafted Crow-Armstrong in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft. After a shoulder injury derailed his first season in the minors, the Mets dealt him to Chicago for Javier Baez and Trevor Williams.
Crow-Armstrong helped lead the Cubs to a 92-70 record and an NL wild-card spot. After beating the Padres in the wild-card round, the Cubs were eliminated in five games by the rival Brewers.
