The Cowboys already knew they wouldn’t have CeeDee Lamb this week. Now they have, at least nominally, his replacement.

Dallas elevated receiver Jalen Cropper from its practice squad to take Lamb’s spot in the receiving corps against the Packers this week.

With Lamb projected to miss 3-4 weeks with a high-ankle sprain suffered during last week’s loss to the Bears, it’s possible that Cropper will be a factor for the next few games, with Dallas set to face the Jets in East Rutherford and the Panthers in Carolina after this week’s game against Green Bay.

Cropper, a Fresno State product, has played one game in the NFL, taking 12 snaps for the Cowboys in last year’s Week 10 loss to the Eagles without recording a catch.

Tight end Jake Ferguson and receiver George Pickens are likely in line for bigger roles with Lamb hurt, as the two currently rank 1 and 3 on the Cowboys’ target list.

Dallas has gotten off to a rough start to its season, dropping games to the Eagles and Bears on either side of an overtime win against the Giants, in which its defense struggled to contain since-benched Russell Wilson.

Without Micah Parsons, whose contract saga dominated the preseason, Matt Eberflus’ defense has been one of the league’s worst.

Parsons, who was traded to the Packers, will be in the spotlight this weekend as he returns to Dallas after the Cowboys traded him, having mishandled negotiations after owner Jerry Jones refused to involve Parsons’ agent in discussions over a new contract.
