Conor McGregor confirmed he’ll be part of the fight card for the planned UFC event on the White House lawn next summer.
“That’s a definitely, that’s for sure,” he said in a video shot by street journalist Adam Glyn. “That’s my event.”
Speculation had been building about whether McGregor would be taking part in the spectacle, originally planned to take place on July 4, 2026, to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America.
“I’m ecstatic that Mac is back, and what better event than to grace the White House Lawn for a straightener. What I do best. I’m very, very excited, very eager, very motivated. Bring it on, baby,” McGregor said.
UFC president Dana White confirmed that the fight at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave was on in a social media post last month and the Wall Street Journal reported that the UFC planned to host fan festivities on the National Mall for several days ahead of the fight.
The Journal also reported the date has shifted to June — which McGregor seemed to confirm in the video.
“I’m very happy that it’s June,” he said. “It was on in July. Now it’s a month earlier, even better. Bring it to April, why not? Let’s celebrate the birthday early. I celebrate my birthday months in advance.”
As of now, no official word has come from the UFC about who will be on the fight card for the event, though others have expressed interest in taking part, including Jon Jones, who White said had a “billion to one” odds of being included.
During an interview on “The Heard” on Wednesday, White indicated the number of people that would be in attendance for the fight would be “under 5,000” due to security.
“Security is going to be a massive issue, because at the end of the day, the Secret Service’s job is to protect the president, and I don’t know how it’s going to work out as far as having people there live on the lawn of the White House,” White said.
McGregor also addressed his candidacy to be President of Ireland.
“My passion, it is not for politics of Ireland, it is not for any specific item of art,” he said. “It is for Ireland, that is what my passion is for. I am a man for Ireland and I will stand for my country as it is your duty to do such. And if you do not, you are nothing to me.”
