Clemson wide receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. was taken to the hospital after suffering a “serious” neck injury on a punt return during the Tigers’ 35-24 home loss to SMU on Saturday afternoon, head coach Dabo Swinney announced after the game.

Swinney didn’t expand further on Wesco’s condition but asked fans to keep the sophomore wideout in their prayers.

“I have no information on him right now, we’ll just have to wait and see,” Swinney told reporters in his post-game press conference. “Just really praying for him. Just a serious deal where we were concerned enough to take him and get him checked.”

Fielding a punt return in the third quarter, the sophomore wideout took a brutal low hit and was sent flying in the air before landing directly on his neck.

While fans reacted in shock and horror, Wesco popped right back up to his feet and trotted off the field without medical assistance — though he did not return to the game.

Swinney was the first to announce that he had been sent to the hospital.

Ahead of the injury, Wesco returned two kicks for 43 yards and four punts for 21 yards — filling in as the Tigers’ primary returner for Antonio Williams Jr., who’s still ramping up from a recent hamstring injury.

Wesco did not record any catches on Saturday for Clemson (3-4, 10th in ACC), though he’s corralled 31 receptions for 537 yards and six touchdowns this season.

The Midlothian, Texas native entered 2025 on the heels of a standout freshman campaign, where he racked up 41 receptions for 708 yards (17.3 yards per catch) with five touchdowns.
