Christian McCaffrey will take the field in Week 1 after all.
Days after the star 49ers running back was added to the injury report due to a calf issue, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday he’s “good to go” for San Francisco’s season opener against the Seahawks in Seattle.
McCaffrey, who was limited to four games last season amid a calf issue earlier in the year, told reporters Friday he planned to play in Week 1.
He seemed set to play in the season opener against the Jets a year ago before abruptly being made inactive and then being sidelined until November with calf and ACL injuries.
“I feel great about where I’m at,” the 29-year-old said. “Unfortunately, when you have the injury history that I have, sometimes when you don’t practice, things get blown out of proportion.”

The 49ers finished the 2024 season at 6-11 and missed the playoffs — one year removed from a Super Bowl berth.
Kickoff between the 49ers and Seahawks is set for 4:05 p.m. Sunday.
