Sunday’s Chivas vs. Atlas game was billed as a friendly, but the two teams’ fanbases clearly didn’t get that memo.
During the rivals’ Clásico Tapatío exhibition clash at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, multiple spectators got in violent fistfights in the venue’s concourses.
It’s not entirely clear what sparked the altercations, but videos show fans of both teams whaled on one another before security stepped in to break things up.
In one clip, a man in a red jersey could be seen getting kicked and punched repeatedly as he tried to crawl his way through a concession stand.
Another video, shot from above the chaos, revealed nearly a dozen people — some shirtless — throwing haymakers at each other.
Guards in neon green shirts tried their best to step in and separate the parties, and eventually, the groups dispersed.
The California Post reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department on Monday for comment situation, but the message was not immediately returned.
As for the action on the field, while it was an exhibition, Chivas and Atlas nonetheless played in a tense, 1-0 matchup.
Chivas came out victorious, after Ángel Sepúlveda scored the game’s lone goal in the second half by heading a ball into the back of the net.
