Brock Purdy will return to lead the 49ers.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said on “49ers Game Plan” that Purdy will return to the starting lineup when San Francisco faces the Cardinals on Sunday, NBC Sports Bay Area reported on Thursday.
It will be the first time that Purdy has played since Sept. 28, when he aggravated a turf toe injury during a loss to the Jaguars.
Purdy has been progressing toward a return, and Shanahan shot down the idea of any sort of controversy brewing.
Mac Jones has started in Purdy’s place, but Shanahan made it clear who would be QB1 when Purdy was back in the fold when he spoke with reporters on Wednesday.
“It’s not a hard decision,” Shanahan said. “It’s just more about Brock’s health. It’s been awesome how Mac’s played. He’s been great, but we got a lot of confidence in Brock, and we know Brock will play at a high level, too, as long as he’s healthy.”
During two games this season, Purdy completed 48 passes for 586 yards and four touchdowns, while also throwing four interceptions.

Jones has made eight starts for the 49ers this season and has helped them go 5-3, also dealing with injury issues himself.
He threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns in their 42-26 loss to the Rams last weekend.

The 49ers are in the middle of a three-way battle for the lead in the NFC West, with the Seahawks and Rams sitting ahead of them with 7-2 records.
