Ole Miss took a big step towards a berth in the College Football Playoff with a win over Oklahoma in Week 9.

The Rebels now sit at 7-1, with their lone defeat coming against Georgia.

Lane Kiffin’s team will need to keep rolling against the South Carolina Gamecocks, who nearly scored an upset against Alabama last weekend, if they want to make it to the dance.

What our Post expert thinks about Ole Miss vs. South Carolina

This was supposed to be a huge season for South Carolina, but the Gamecocks have come up lame, racking up just three wins in eight games.

South Carolina is now relegated to the role of spoiler, as the Gamecocks try to derail the seasons of their SEC rivals.

Ole Miss has a very manageable schedule to close out the campaign with showdowns against The Citadel, Florida, and Mississippi State left on the docket.

The downside to that is that if the Rebels lose any of the remaining contests, they’d likely be dropped from the playoff picture.
