This is the bizarre moment a paraglider spotted a dog wandering around at the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza after climbing up to bark at birds.

In the jaw-dropping footage, which has now gone viral on social media, the canine had scaled what was once the tallest human-built structure for around 4,000 years.

Alex Lang was soaring above the 455ft Great Pyramid, the largest of the three in Egypt’s Giza, when he noticed movement on its apex on October 14.

Zooming into the small flat space at the top of the brick structure, viewers were stunned to see that it was a dog roaming around.

Following the surprising find atop the ancient landmark, Lang said the pooch had been barking at the birds flying overhead when he spotted the animal.

Lang’s clip was reshared by Marshall Mosher, an adventure athlete, and racked up over 592,300 likes.

Impressed viewers were quick to leave their thoughts in the comment section.

‘If he [the dog]pees there, all Egypt belongs to him,’ one Instagram user said.

Another joked, ‘Not a dog. That is the Egyptian God Anubis. He is considered the guide of the dead in the afterlife and the protector of the tombs. That’s why it is over the pyramid.’

‘I wonder how long it took him. I want him to come down and get some water,’ said a third.

It remains unclear whether the pyramid-scaling dog was ultimately rescued from his adventure as the incredible clip ended with the pup still on the monument.

It also was not immediately clear how the small dog managed to get to the top of the giant pyramid, or how long it had been up there for.

After the video made its rounds on Instagram, one user shared it to X, formerly Twitter, where it received over 5,000 likes in a matter of hours.

The user wrote: ‘Dog spotted hanging out on the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.

‘The man who filmed the incident from his powered paraglider says the dog was barking at birds.

‘The Great Pyramid of Giza is a whopping 450 feet tall meaning the dog had to take a long hike to the top.’

The dog’s ascent, seemingly unaided, sparked further curiosity and amusement on the platform.

One user wrote: ‘That’s his pyramid now. He conquered it.’

Another joked: ‘Sometimes you just gotta climb the highest hill and bark at some birds, man.’

A third added: ‘Those blocks are BIG. That’s a crazy climb for a dog. I’m not convinced.’

Climbing the Great Pyramid of Giza, or any of the 118 Egyptian pyramids, is illegal.

To swipe a chance at seeing what is on top of the landmark, many tourists often take paragliding tours of the structures, but they do not often see canines up there.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is an ancient wonder that continues to draw in millions of tourists around the globe.

Built around 2580-2565 BC during the reign of Pharaoh Khufu, the majestic structure stands as the largest of the three pyramids in Giza.

Today, the Great Pyramid is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protected and preserved through ongoing restoration efforts.
