Hanging out, down the street. The same old thing… they did 15 years ago.
Ashton Kutcher is opening up about his nostalgic experience returning to the set of “That ‘70s Show” for Netflix’s upcoming spinoff, “That ‘90s Show.”
“It was really nostalgic to be back on the set,” Kutcher, 44, told Variety. “It’s all the same folks that made ‘That ‘70s Show,’ so it was pretty bizarre.”
“That ’70s Show” ran from August 1998 to May 2006, and now the cast is coming back for more.
Kutcher and his wife Mila Kunis, 38, will be reprising their roles as Michael Kelso and Jackie Burkhart in the reboot.
“Mila and I were contemplating it,” Kutcher said. “We thought, ‘Listen, we’re only in the position that we’re in because of that show, so let’s just go back and do this.’ We just went back and had fun for a week. It was so random and fun.”
While Kutcher said he and Kunis were on set for a week, he did not clarify what kind of role their characters will play in the new show.
Other stars reprising their original roles include Topher Grace (Eric), Laura Prepon (Donna), Wilmer Valderrama (Fez), Tommy Chong (Leo), Debra Jo Rupp (Kitty) and Kurtwood Smith (Red).
One original star not returning is Danny Masterson, who is awaiting trial on three separate counts of rape.
The spinoff will pick up in 1995 and will follow Eric and Donna’s daughter Leia, played by Callie Haverda. Leia “bonds with a new generation of Point Place kids under the watchful eye of Kitty and the stern glare of Red” while visiting for the summer, according to the official logline.
“It’s really funny. The new cast is phenomenal,” Kutcher told Variety about the spinoff.
Haverda is joined by Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Reyn Doi and Sam Morelos in the new cast.
A release date for “That ‘90s Show” has not yet been announced.
