It wouldn’t be Oscars nominations day without outcry over the biggest snubs.
The Academy announced their picks for the best of film on Thursday, with the most 2025 nominations going towards “Emilia Perez,” “The Brutalist” and “Wicked.”
Ariana Grande, Demi Moore, Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet and Zoe Saldana were among the actors who received nods for their performances.
But a slew of other talented actors — including Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Denzel Washington and Pamela Anderson — were completely snubbed from the nominations list.
Jolie, 49, was acclaimed for her role in the Maria Callas biopic directed by Pablo Larraín. She previously won an Oscar in 2000 for “Girl, Interrupted.”
For “Maria,” Jolie was nominated for a Golden Globe, an Astra Film Award and a Critics’ Choice Movie Award. She was also honored at the 2024 Gotham Awards.
But some fans and critics saw her Oscars snub coming after she didn’t land a nomination for a Screen Actor Guild Award.
Kidman, 57, received similar praise for her performance as a CEO who has an affair with her younger intern in “Babygirl.” The movie provided many viral moments — including that infamous milk scene — that drew more attention towards the project.
Despite getting nominated at the Golden Globes and winning the International Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival for “Babygirl,” Kidman was left off the Oscars’ Best Actress list for 2025.
Washington, a two-time Oscar winner, didn’t land a nomination this year for his supporting role in “Gladiator II.”
Most movie-goers said the 70-year-old was the best part of Ridley Scott’s sequel, and his performance was recognized by the Golden Globe Awards and the Critics’ Choice Awards.
However, the Academy didn’t show Washington the same love. But his film did land a nomination for Best Costume Design.
Anderson, 57, gave what many called her career-best performance in Gia Coppola’s “The Last Showgirl,” garnering her first Golden Globe and SAG nominations.
But her portrayal as showgirl Shelly Gardner, considered her Hollywood comeback, didn’t get noticed by the Oscars.
Selena Gomez is also in the snub conversation. While her film “Emilia Perez” scored a historic 13 nominations, including for her co-stars Zoe Saldana and Karla Sofía Gascón, Gomez didn’t make the cut for the Best Supporting Actress category.
The Disney Channel alum was nominated for a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award for “Emilia Perez.” She also took home the Cannes Film Festival’s Best Actress award alongside Saldana and Gascón last year.
“Dune: Part II” filmmaker Denis Villeneuve missed out in the Best Director category, despite such high praise for the sci-fi sequel. The film starring Chalamet and Zendaya did end up getting a nod for Best Picture.
Other notable snubs include Margaret Qualley for “The Substance,” whose co-star Demi Moore got in for Best Actress after winning the Golden Globe, Daniel Craig for his performance as a gay American expat in “Queer,” “Mona 2,” which missed for Best Animated Feature after the original was nominated in 2016, and “Challengers,” which got zero nominations.
The 97th Academy Awards air Sunday, March 2 at 7 p.m. on ABC.
