Adam Page opens up about how he became AEW's 'standard bearer'

“Hangman” Adam Page doesn’t like to think of himself as AEW’s “main character.”

It is the title bestowed on him by the Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, who are the company’s real-life executive vice presidents. It’s a distinction hard to disagree with after Page, a company original, has had two of its best storylines leading to his AEW World championship wins and one of the top feuds in company history against Swerve Strickland, among other things.

Page, however, chooses not to say such things about himself. He just takes a lunch-pail approach to it all as he is at the beginning of his second reign as AEW World champion. Page is set to defend his title against rising star Kyle Fletcher during All Out at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the company’s first pay-per-view streaming on HBO Max.

“I just come to work and do my job to the best of my abilities and however fans may leave the building or turn off their TVs every week, that’s up to them,” Page told The Post in a phone interview. “I’m sure for some people I’m not their cup of tea and that’s fine. But for a lot of people, apparently, I am. I’m going to try to take a little bit of affirmation that the work I’ve done in my career has meant something and is an achievement on its own. I’m going to think of it that way, keep my head down and continue to do what I do.”
