JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Aaron Glenn made no secret in training camp about one of his objectives in his first season as Jets coach.

Glenn made it a point he drove home constantly that the team needed to get penalties down this season.

The Jets led the NFL in penalties in 2023 and 2024 under former coaches Robert Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich.

Glenn stressed that this team would be more disciplined this year.

Through 13 games, Glenn has gotten good results.

The Jets are 14th in the NFL with 88 penalties.

They had a few rough games early in the season — 13 penalties in Week 4 against the Dolphins and 10 penalties in Week 5 against the Cowboys — but have not had a double-digit penalty game since.

Aaron Glenn addresses reporters during his Dec. 12 press conference. Bill Kostroun for the NY Post

“Penalties, I think the guys have done a good job,” Glenn said Friday. “Like I said, when you’ve been a high-penalty team for two straight years, leading the league in penalties, and at one point we were half there, I think we dipped a little bit on that. The thing is, we’re definitely not as bad as we used to be. We started the season out that way and we kind of calmed that down, so I think the players were, like, they understood that and they wanted to make sure that that wasn’t a part of who we were as a team.”

According to nflpenalties.com, the Jets have had 45 penalties on offense, 33 on defense and 10 on special teams.

The infraction they have committed the most has been false starts (21), followed by offensive holding (13), defensive pass interference (8) and defensive holding (8).

They have had 37 pre-snap penalties.

Their most penalized players have been left guard John Simpson (9), right tackle Armand Membou (7) and cornerback Jarvis Brownlee (7).

The Jets are on pace for 115 penalties, which would be lower than their 2024 (137) or 2023 (124) totals.

“They’ve done a good job of taking those things down,” Glenn said, “so we still have a ways to go to get exactly where we want to be, but we’re working our [butts] off to do that, along with everything else as far as executing what we want to do on offense, coaches make sure we prepare the team like we should, and make sure we go out there and execute as a unit.”

The Jets placed rookie CB Azareye’h Thomas on injured reserve Saturday, ending his season. The third-round pick started five games. He injured his shoulder in the loss to the Dolphins last week. … The team also activated LB Cam Jones from IR, and elevated QB Adrian Martinez and DB Tre Brown from the practice squad. Martinez will serve as Brady Cook’s backup.
