Details matter. Just ask Matt Nagy.

During a team meeting ahead of training camp, the new Giants offensive coordinator preached the importance of attention to detail, with the word “detailed” on a projected screen.

“If there’s one thing about that I’m psychotic about, it’s details,” Nagy said. “If you’re a wide receiver and tight end, or running back, whoever … we get the splits, we get the motions, shifts … splits matter, that’s just one example. We gotta be detailed all the time. We got to understand what that’s about.

“Sloppy teams that aren’t detailed, they lose. We’re not gonna lose. We’re gonna dominate because we’re smart, physical, tough … we’re gonna be detailed. That starts in here.

“… We all learn differently. We watch video. I’m a visualizer. I like to see things. Let’s take it to the field and be detailed. And then if you make a mistake, that’s ok … then we go ahead and fix it. We just don’t make the same mistake twice.”

If there’s one thing the #Giants haven’t been over the last 10 years, it’s detailed.

With multiple rows of players in attendance, Nagy projected a screen with the words “detailed, smart, physical and tough,” while the presentation appeared to be called, “Physical at the Core, Explosive By Design.”

The Giants have certainly lacked details the last few years under Brian Daboll, going 13-38 since their last playoff appearance in January 2023.

In their abysmal 4-13 campaign last year, the Giants racked up 1,075 penalty yards, the fifth-most in the NFL. Their 128 penalties were also tied for second-most in the league.

That led to the in-season firing of Daboll and then the hiring of John Harbaugh to be the team’s next head coach.

Nagy most recently spent the last three years as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator and was the Bears’ head coach from 2018-21.

Compared to his pre-2023 form, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ numbers notably regressed under Nagy before he tore his ACL late last season.

With detail likely in the back of his mind, Giants fans can only hope Nagy can help unlock second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart.
