We are all sports fans, and so we all dream of something like this. We dream of a team we care about winning today. When that happens, we are hopeful that they win tomorrow. We are a cautious people, and so we are well-versed in the danger of getting too cocky, too confident, too far ahead of ourselves … but maybe we can win the day after that, too.

Again: We are sports fans. So we know better than to feel too good about what we’ve just described, which is a five-game winning streak. Six is almost too much to hope for. Seven is too much to dream about. Eight? Nine? Ten? The secular gods of sport are watching. Eleven? Twelve? We are due. We are overdue.
