Roger Goodell and his merry band of enabling team owners whose franchises are worth tens of billions are in dire need of a lecture from Professor Harold Hill from “The Music Man,” who beseeched the mothers of River City to heed this warning:
“You are not aware of the caliber of disaster indicated by the presence of a pool table in your community. … Well, ya got trouble my friends.”
The NFL has a serious crime problem, as in felony crimes. Its team rosters are beginning to swell with players who are as familiar to police and the legal system as Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg is to ignoring what he can’t miss.
Two weeks ago, Lions CB Terrion Arnold, a 2024 first-round pick out of Alabama — the SEC is lousy with young criminals now paid above the table — was arrested, charged with armed robbery and kidnapping, several steps beyond more standard arrests of “student-athletes” such as driving 115 mph with a suspended license and a Glock in the glove compartment.
