Seeds planted in spring sprouted during the summer on a Florida beach for AEW.
It was back in April that Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega sat on crates backstage after both lost their respective matches and chance at gold at the Dynasty pay-per-view.
Ospreay fell to Continental champion Jon Moxley and Omega couldn’t best MJF for the AEW World championship.
Omega, after having two years of his career ripped away by diverticulitis, was ready to pass the torch to Ospreay in that moment, believing his days as AEW World champion were over as the younger star, who also cut his teeth in New Japan, was chasing a first-time hold of the belt. It was Ospreay telling him not to give up and that he was his “hero” that perked up Omega enough to find the resolve to keep going.
