Jalen Brunson’s leadership skills helped the Knicks end a 53-year championship drought, and next week he’ll be sharing his insights into them as part of a Wall Street Journal Sports event in Manhattan.

The NBA Finals MVP will appear alongside CEO of J.P. Morgan Wealth Management Kristin Lemkau for a moderated conversation around money, leadership and financial empowerment for the next generation of athletes. It will be part of the WSJ Sports: The Next Sports Economy event running from July 15-16, featuring a number of big names from the sports and financial world.

Brunson’s MVP performance included an incredible 45-point performance in the series-clinching Game 5. Making his efforts even more impressive is the fact that he did all of that while dealing with an injury in his left wrist that led him to undergo surgery.

The inaugural event, being jointly hosted by the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones, will examine “sports as a high-performance global asset class.”

“Conversations will also analyze the market forces shaping investment, dealmaking and growth in the industry, including how athlete brand equity drives institutional value and the operational reality of sports icons transitioning into executive roles,” according to a release about the event.

On-stage speakers will include Brewers owner Mark Attanasio, NBA commissioner Adam Silver, NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman, MLS commissioner Don Garber, operating partner of RedBird Capital Partners and Swedish soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimović and NASCAR COO Ben Kennedy.

Founder and managing partner of RedBird Capital Partners Gerry Cardinale, co-founder and CEO of Dynast Equity K. Don Cornwell, NYC Langone Health’s Guillem Gonzalez-Loma, founder and CEO of Kynisca Michele Kag, chairman and CEO of Avenue Capital Group Marc Lasry, Apollo Sports Capital chief strategy officer Sam Porter, president and COO of TKO Mark Shapiro and Relevant’s executive chairman Daniel Sillman will also speak on stage.

The two-day event will open with a cocktail reception and feature live performances by Grammy-nominated cellist Tina Guo and internationally acclaimed violinist Leah Zeger.

Eight-time Grammy Award-winning, Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning singer, composer and pianist Jon Batiste will perform at the dinner reception.
