The partnership between Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum has officially come to an end.

During a remarkable week for NBA free agency, another blockbuster trade sent Brown to the 76ers late Wednesday evening.

In return, the Celtics acquired 36-year-old Paul George and a significant haul of draft assets, including first-round picks in 2028 and 2031, as well as second-round picks for 2028 and 2030.

The impact on the betting market was immediate.

Before the trade, Philadelphia’s championship odds were 55/1, but they have since dropped to 22/1 on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Their odds of winning the East were 20/1 before the trade and have since fallen to +850, ahead of both the Pistons (+850) and Heat (+900).

To win the Atlantic Division, they were 22/1, and that’s now at +500.

This move follows a period of tension where Brown’s name frequently appeared in trade rumors during the NBA Draft, specifically regarding Boston’s interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Consequently, the Celtics chose to pivot, sending the perennial All-Star to an Atlantic Division rival to join a Sixers core featuring Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and V.J. Edgecombe.

Brown enters off a massive career year as the Celtics’ No. 1 option while Tatum recovered from an Achilles injury for most of the season. In his 10th and final campaign with Boston, Brown averaged 28.7 points (fourth best in the NBA), 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists.

Philadelphia was swept in the second round by the eventual champion Knicks in last season’s playoffs and lacked proper depth at the wing position.

Betting on the NBA?

In addition to Brown, they also signed former Cavaliers forward Dean Wade to a four-year, $39 million deal yesterday.

These deals certainly inch them closer to chasing Jalen Brunson and the reigning Knicks in the East.
