It’s been less than two weeks since the New York Knicks hoisted the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy; now, the NBA is looking toward the future.

The 2026 NBA Draft begins tonight, and the Washington Wizards, who finished dead last in the 2025-26 season, landed the first overall pick.

What they’ll do with that pick isn’t so clear in the hours leading up to the draft. There’s no consensus first overall pick, and the team has a few different options, including BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, Kansas guard Darryn Peterson, and Duke’s Cameron Boozer.

2026 nba draft: what to know

  • When: June 23, 8 p.m. ET (Round 1); June 24, 8 p.m. ET (Round 2)
  • Where: Barclays Center (Brooklyn, New York)
  • Channel: ESPN, ABC (Round 1 only)
  • Streaming: DIRECTV (try it free)

Dybantsa has been considered the front-runner for some time. In just one year with the Cougars, he put up an average 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

The Brooklyn Nets will make their first selection at No. 6, while the champion Knicks make their first pick at No. 24.

Below, we’ve outlined everything you need to know to tune into both days of the NBA draft, from channels to times.

2026 NBA Draft date and start time

The first round of the NBA Draft is tonight, June 23, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN and ABC.

Round 2 of the NBA Draft is June 24 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.

How to watch and stream the 2026 NBA Draft for free

If you don’t have cable, you’ll need a live TV streaming service to stream the game for free.

DIRECTV is our top pick for watching live TV for free — its five-day free trial includes ESPN and ABC. When the trial is over, you’ll pay as low as $49.99/month and gain access to over 90 live channels.

If you aren’t ready to commit to a full-on subscription, you can try a Sling Orange Day Pass. Priced at $4.99, you’ll get 24 hours of access to all Sling TV Orange has to offer, including ESPN. Sling also offers weekend and week-long passes for its Orange plan, which offer between three and seven days of access.
