Police in Davie, Florida, are reversing course after originally saying that an investigation into Geno Smith over an alleged battery had been closed, now saying that it is “being further investigated.”

Officers from the Davie Police Department had been called to the Jets quarterback’s Florida home around 4:40 p.m. Sunday for the alleged battery, but a spokesperson could not provide further details about the incident.

The spokesperson initially told The California Post’s Ed Lewis that “no one was taken into custody on scene” and the investigation had been closed.

Monday evening, however, a spokesperson for the department told multiple outlets that the incident was actually under investigation.

“We were informed earlier this evening, that during review, it was determined that this case is being further investigated by a detective,” the spokesperson said, according to USA Today. “It is active and we cannot release any additional information at this time.”

The outlet also reported that the spokesperson could not explain why the Davie Police Department changed course or who had made the call to further investigate the alleged incident.

A police report from the incident will be made available when the detectives close the investigation and it is approved for release, according to USA Today.

The alleged incident first came to light after a woman named Kristen made claims in videos on her Instagram Story that Smith had laid hands on her, writing in a caption over an 80-plus-second video that the NFL QB had “beat my ass.”

“Today is the DAY!” the caption read. “GENO SMITH beat my ass cause he HATES taking care of his special needs kid and can’t be left alone with him because he’d rather watch s*x online and play Call of Duty.”

The woman in the video says on camera that Smith “ran outside and attacked me” and, following an argument in the driveway, she ran down toward the street screaming for help.

She also claimed that Smith had broken her computer, thrown her purses out and stolen money out of her car.

The woman also showed a short snippet of Smith talking with uniformed police officers.

Smith has not publicly commented on the allegations, and the Jets did not have a comment when reached by The California Post.

The mother of Smith’s son, Seven, did take to social media to defend the quarterback Sunday.

In Instagram Stories of her own, she pushed back on the comments by Kristen, saying that Smith “is and always has been more than capable of taking care of his son.”

“Let’s kill that narrative. Don’t get on the internet bringing my son into your web of dysfunction,” she also wrote.

Smith became a member of the Jets earlier this offseason when he was traded by the Raiders to Gang Green, returning to the organization he played for from 2013-16.

He is expected to be the Jets starting quarterback this upcoming season.
