Victor Wembanyama got away with another one and kept the cushion on his flagrant count.
The NBA reviewed Wemby’s mush on Jalen Brunson’s head from Monday’s Game 3 and determined it would NOT retroactively upgrade it to a flagrant foul.
This wasn’t a shocker. Golden geese — or aliens, in this case — are a protected species in the NBA and it was difficult seeing the league office disciplining Wemby more than it had to. Monty McCutchen, the NBA’s head of officiating, acknowledged the refs missed Wemby’s foul during the game but warned before the decision that a flagrant probably wasn’t coming.
“We want a clear and conclusive standard to upgrade something,” McCutchen told ESPN.
