A bizarre sequence of events played out during a second division soccer match in Ecuador on Sunday when a medical cart carrying an injured player struck another player while exiting the pitch.

The incident occurred during L.D.U. Portoviejo’s 1-0 win over El Nacional in the 72nd minute of the LigaPro Serie B match.

As the cart was making its way back to the sideline, Portoviejo’s Edison Caicedo appeared to unintentionally turn and make contact with the medical cart and went down to the ground.

Caicedo managed to crawl a step or two before rolling back onto the ground in pain and was looked at by members of his club.

Members of the Portoviejo’s staff also rushed over to confront the cart’s driver, with several people angrily yelling at the man, including their coach Raúl Duarte.

Duarte could be seen on the broadcast confronting the driver and at another point looking for the officials to do something.

Soccer fans online weren’t as sympathetic, as many joked that Caicedo had purposefully walked into the cart.

“Man’s diving like the cart driver’s gonna get a card for that or something,” one user on Reddit commented.

“Damn, they ‘RUN HIM OVER’ but he has the time and strength to get back on the field,” another person wrote on X.

“Feels like I’m watching an OKC highlights video,” another social media user said, alluding to the ongoing debate surrounding flopping and the Thunder in the NBA.

At the time of the incident, Portoviejo was holding a 1-0 lead over El Nacional, thanks to a goal in the 30th minute by Juan Camilo González Morán.
