Surprise, surprise.
Midfielders Tanner Tessman and Diego Luna did not make the cut down to 26 players for Team USA at the World Cup, according to The Guardian.
The roster spots on coach Mauricio Pochettino’s squad instead went to midfielder Gio Reyna and winger Alejandro Zendejas.
Luna has returned from a knee injury with four goals and two assists in seven MLS appearances (six starts) since April 1.
Tessman suffered a muscle strain just two weeks ago. It is unknown if his exclusion is related to injury.
Reyna is getting a second chance after nearly being sent home from the 2022 World Cup for behavioral issues.
His parents and former USA coach Gregg Berhalter were at odds.
Berhalter’s son, Sebastian, made the roster.
USA is in a group with Paraguay, Turkey and Australia and opens play at 9 p.m. June 12.
