Josh Mauro, a former NFL defensive end, has died, his family announced in a statement Tuesday.

He was 35.

Mauro, who played eight years in the NFL with the Cardinals, Giants and Raiders, passed away on Thursday, according to his family.

No cause of death was revealed.

“With many tears and broken hearts, yet anchored in the unshakable certainty that our precious Josh Mauro is now healed and made new-living in the presence of the Lord—we humbly covet your prayers as our family walks through the devastating loss of our amazing son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend,” Greg Mauro wrote on Facebook.

Mauro was born in England and moved to Texas with his family when he was 3 years old, before he went on to play high school football at L.D. Bell, where, during his senior season, he recorded 80 tackles, 12 sacks, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one blocked kick, according to an article published by the Mercury News.

He then played college football at Stanford before going undrafted in 2014.

Mauro was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent, but was released during the final round of roster cuts.

The Cardinals eventually signed him that season, and he would go on to play six seasons in Arizona.

Mauro started 40 of the 80 NFL games that he played during the course of his career, while recording 130 tackles and five sacks.

He also had five passes defended and two forced fumbles.

Mauro spent one season with the Giants in 2018 and was suspended for the first four games after violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Mauro appeared in 12 games and started four during his lone season with the Giants, recording 28 tackles and a sack.
